Gnomi’s mission is to provide a platform for open, transparent and global conversations. Gnomi’s Community Guidelines are designed to ensure these conversations can take place in a safe way. We expect that all Gnomi users will follow the guidelines listed below and be responsible members of our shared community. In short, we expect you to respect what is our global, diverse community together with all of its different points of view, to follow the laws and rules regarding the ownership of photos, videos and written articles, and to use good judgment and exercise responsible conduct in every aspect of your engagement.
Gnomi is, by design, an international community. You will find a great diversity of ages, cultures, beliefs and perspectives. This also means there is a great diversity of sensitivities and perceptions of what is appropriate versus inappropriate, offensive versus informative. With these Community Guidelines we attempt to thread the needle through rules that provide a safe environment but allow enough flexibility for the unvarnished, unbiased news of the world to be served.
Overstepping the boundaries set forth below may result in deleted content, disabled account, or apply other restrictions that we determine to be a balanced and appropriate response to protect the interests of the community. We may give latitude in some cases where the content you are presenting has extraordinary value, perhaps in bringing a particular perspective or unvarnished truth to light for our community of information seekers. In all cases we attempt to weigh the public interest value of your content against the harm it is likely to inflict and take into account the international human rights standards applicable at the time.
Here are the community rules we all must live by:
Post articles, photos and videos only if you wrote or took them or have the right to share them. You must ensure that you have the necessary rights and permissions to use and share any copyrighted content. When you post on Gnomi you certify that you have the legal right to do so.
The human body has played a central role in art and literature since the earliest recorded history. The human form can, unquestionably, be beautiful in all of its shapes and forms. Certain artistic images, including nudity in photos of paintings and sculptures of artistic merit, is permitted.
However, for a variety of reasons, we do not allow other nudity on Gnomi. This includes photos, videos, and some digitally-created content that show sexual intercourse, genitals, close-ups of fully-nude buttocks, photos or images of nude or partially nude children, and any other photos of children where there may be a question of propriety. We also may block or take other action in the event you post some photos of female nipples, but photos in the context of breastfeeding, birth giving and after-birth moments, health-related situations (for example, post-mastectomy, breast cancer awareness or gender confirmation surgery) or an act of protest are generally allowed.
Gnomi welcomes news of the world and all of the diverse opinions represented in our global community. We welcome reasoned, thoughtful debate. However, Gnomi does not permit the expression of support for groups or ideas that praise violence, crime, terrorism, discrimination, or hate. We look to domestic and international standards and lists in determining what entities or movements are appropriately categorized as hate or terrorist groups.
We also do not allow the offering of sexual services, the posting of sexual content involving minors, the posting of intimate images of others without their consent, the buying or selling of firearms, the sale of alcohol or tobacco between private individuals, and the buying or selling non-medical or pharmaceutical drugs other than as specifically permitted by law. We remove content that solicits, offers or attempts to arrange the sale or giving of any non-medical drugs or that promotes the use of non-medical drugs. Gnomi does not allow content that encourages or attempts to coordinate the poaching or selling of endangered animal species or their parts. Finally, we remove content that
encourages or promotes online gambling, online real money games of skill or online lotteries that are not fully compliant with law and reviewed in advance and specifically approved by Gnomi.
It is important that the authenticity of the articles and content posted on Gnomi can be relied upon by our members. Therefore, we do not permit misinformation. Specific types of misinformation that are especially damaging and that will be removed include election interference where information is intended to suppress voting through confusion or intimidation or the misreporting of election results, claims that pose risks to anyone’s physical safety, and the manipulated of media, such as where photos, video or links to content are created by technologies like AI and are intended to be falsely attributed to politicians, governments or other authorities. Deliberately posting this kind of content may result in the member being banned from Gnomi.
At Gnomi our goal is to foster a positive, diverse community. For that reason, we do not allow content that contains credible threats or hate speech, content that targets private individuals or degrades or shames them, personal information meant to blackmail or harass someone, and repeated unwanted messages. Gnomi does not allow content that encourages violence, either against a specific person, a group of people or generally.
Specifically, you may not threaten, harass, or promote violence against other people or groups on the basis of characteristics such as race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or disease. Such language includes dehumanizing speech intended to devalue a person or group, slurs, tropes, stereotypes, or other pejorative content. We do not allow content that incites or encourages others to discriminate or harass, expressions of contempt or dismissal of protected groups or their legal rights, or glorification of mass casualty events, such as genocides or lynchings, or of hate crimes and victims.
At the same time, we attempt to take into account that our community members are a critical portal to information and that many wish to have their beliefs and world view challenged. Therefore, we will generally allow stronger conversation around legitimate news stores and discussions of controversial topics, particularly for our journalists who have a large audience due to their profession, expertise or public activities. Moreover, when hate speech is being shared to challenge it or to raise awareness, we may allow it under certain circumstances. We invite all community members to express any concerns to us directly.
Gnomi does not allow activities that compromise the platform’s integrity or disrupt other people’s experience. You may not use multiple accounts to manipulate the perception of other members or to comment on your own content.
You are not allowed to use Gnomi to distribute spam.
You are also prohibited from impersonating another person and from creating create accounts for the purpose of violating our guidelines or misleading other community members. Posing as another person, organization, or entity without their consent is not allowed. We consider the context when evaluating violations. For instance, using impersonation in the service of parody or humor is permissible but must be clearly marked. You specifically may not use another person’s name or identity without their consent or use our platform to deceive other users by posing as a celebrity, government official, authority, or business.
We understand that a central purpose of Gnomi is to provide a platform for our community to share important and newsworthy events. Some of these issues can involve graphic images. Because so many different people and age groups use Gnomi, we may make a decision to remove videos of intense, graphic violence.
We also appreciate that our global community can rely on Gnomi to raise awareness of causes important to them, to condemn what they perceive as injustice, and to encourage political debate and social change. We therefore give greater leeway to content that evidences a legitimate interest in and potential for educating or encouraging civil debate on important topics. If you intend to share content that might otherwise be considered controversial or potentially in violation of these Community Guidelines, we strongly suggest you provide a caption at the start of your content warning that there may be material that could be offensive to some members and briefly describing why this is balanced by the educational or informational value of your content.
We do our best to review posted content and ensure that it meets our Community Guidelines. However, we also depend on our global community to help us. Therefore, if you happen to see something that violates these guidelines before we do, or you may be aware of an emerging sensitivity or trend that merits a change or expansion of these rules, please report it directly to us.
We also ask that you, within acceptable parameters, keep an open mind. Our community is designed to encourage debate and to help our members consider alternative points of view. Having our long-held beliefs challenged and pushing us past our comfort zone can be difficult. You may find content you don’t like, but it doesn’t mean it violates our Community Guidelines. As such, you have a couple of choices. You can unfollow the journalist, avoid their content, or engage them in civil debate. The choice will always be yours.
Many disputes and concerns can be resolved by dialogue directly between members. However, if you encounter content is particularly troubling, or that appears to violate another person’s copyright or trademark rights, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly. We may work with law enforcement, including when we believe that there’s a risk of physical harm or a threat to public safety.
Thank you for helping us create the leading platform and portal to substantive global information. Sincerely,
The Gnomi Family
